Navigating the Path to Vibrant Health: A Philosophy of Diet and Digestion

I believe that achieving vibrant health is a journey of becoming a wise adult, regaining autonomy over our bodies, and having the discipline to follow through with what we learn. Digestion and intake may seem complex, but when we parse out the differences between diet—our food choices—and nutrition—the actual uptake of fuel—the process becomes much simpler. By understanding the natural defense mechanisms of plants and the historical sequencing of meals, we can move away from the "perverted" standard modern diet toward a system that offers efficient energy without the bloating and fatigue we’ve come to accept as normal.

A major hurdle in modern nutrition is the presence of plant defense mechanisms: *lectins* and **oxalates**. Lectins are "sticky proteins" that can hook onto gut walls, tearing holes that lead to "leaky gut syndrome" and systemic inflammation. Oxalates, another plant defense, can crystallize in the body, often building up in joints and masquerading as arthritis. Interestingly, many people find success on a carnivore diet simply because it "collaterally" solves these issues by removing plant toxins. However, we can also manage these by properly processing our food; fermenting or pressure cooking can "delectinize" many plants, allowing us to gain their nutrients without the digestive damage.

Beyond what we eat, the *sequence* and *combination* of our food are vital. Historically, European elites followed a specific order: sugars (like fruit) first, then starches, and finally proteins and fats. This aligns with how our bodies process energy. Simple sugars digest quickly, taking about an hour to pass through the stomach. If we follow the modern mistake of eating fruit after a heavy meal, that sugar sits on top of slow-digesting protein and ferments, creating gas, indigestion, and even internal alcohol—essentially "prison wine" in your belly.

My personal strategy involves a "Fast Five" diet, eating only within a five-hour window to allow for proper fasting and digestion. I break my fast with water and a single-item fruit meal, waiting for it to clear the stomach before moving to a heavy vegetable meal. Crucially, I do not drink water or "loop" during the four-hour window required to process starches or proteins, as fluids dilute digestive enzymes and hinder efficiency.

To further optimize this, I practice **urine therapy**, or "looping," to recycle excess nutrients, hormones, and stem cells that the kidneys have filtered into the bladder. By combining this recycling process with conscious food sequencing, I ensure that my body isn't just taking in calories, but actually absorbing and utilizing them. When we stop overindulging to the point of passing out and start eating to the point of satiation with the correct timing, we unlock a level of energy and mobility that allows us to feel good throughout the entire digestive process.
